2013 Trustwave Global Security Report Highlights Continuing Need for PCI Compliance Training to Prevent Data Breaches

On February 13th, Trustwave, a security services firm, released key findings from its 2013 Trustwave Global Security Report.  For the first time, the retail industry surpassed the hospitality industry as the number one target for cybercriminals.  Hotels, however, remain a desired target and should remain vigilant against cyber-attacks.  “Cybercriminals will never stop trying to compromise systems to obtain valuable information such as customer and private user data, corporate trade secrets and payment card information,” said Robert J. McCullen, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Trustwave.

Among the recommendations in the report, Trustwave advises companies to “Educate employees. Employees are the first line of defense against attackers. Organizations should conduct security awareness training on a regular basis for all existing and new employees.”  In the hotel industry, security training, including PCI compliance training, should be an integral part of any hotel compliance program.  Among the most effective PCI training programs for hotels are those that include custom learning solutions, such as PCI compliance training modules and similar training on best practices for using hospitality technology.
